It remains unknown when and from which country the custom of wearing a turban first appeared in Central Asia.

Beginning in the early 20th century, Uzbek women adopted the practice of wearing tyubeteikas—traditional skullcaps—sewn in a style similar to those worn by men, featuring a quilted lining.

The duppi is one of the most iconic elements of the traditional Uzbek costume and is worn throughout all four seasons of the year.
